OUR STORY

Material is the creation of Jim Osborne, an awarded designer who comes from a long line of Australian sheep and cattle farmers.

Growing up immersed in the landscape and culture of his family’s farm, Jim developed a deep affinity with rural life – a connection he continues to keep alive through his 3,000-acre property, Yambulla.

As a designer, Jim has always responded to the hands-on, hard-working nature of farming life. In this environment, ideas are inspired by practical purpose and products are made skilfully and sustainably. This ethos is reflected in Material: a contemporary design brand that marries classic craftsmanship with responsible production. 

Material products are handcrafted in limited edition batches, and each piece celebrates the imperfections and character of its raw materials. Designs have also been fine-tuned at the testing ground of Yambulla over the course of years, ensuring that they work beautifully in practice.
